Well, this one was a long time in the making. I started this project after I realized that there were no real, solid concept designs for the Warcraft dragon Deathwing, lord of the Black Dragonflight. Deathwing is an important character, so the lack of art seemed rather disappointing. Thus, I set out upon my own quest to come up with a concept for him.

The armor plating is largely based off a piece of official art by Chris Metzen. As for the lava, Day of the Dragon described him as "bursting at the seams" with it, thus I took a few liberties. Since his innards are almost entirely lava at this point, he cracks a little and it shows through when he opens his mouth. This cracking would be due to the thinner rock layers on his skin melting back down into lava.

I set him out in Shadowmoon Valley since it seemed a lot more fun then ye old cliché volcanic background. Besides, the naturally green sky provided some nice contrast.
